Android SmartPhones - Things to know

There are lots of things that you can do with your android smartphone. As it is not possible to add everything in the manual provided by the manufacturer as no one will read a big manual so here are some of the things that you can do to make your experience of using a Android smartphone better and fun.

1. Long Press - Instead of tapping an icon/word or a button, press it for 2 sec. Often, this will bring up a menu of options specific to the type of item, like one to bookmark a Web link. In general, long-press functions are intended to save you from tapping through a series of menus to perform a common task. It’s the equivalent of right-clicking your mouse on a PC screen. This lets you hop quickly between, say, an e-mail you are composing and your Web browser.

2. Silencing a Call - Most users figure out they can get rid of a phone call by sliding/tapping the red button that appears onscreen when the phone is ringing. But you can also stop the phone from ringing by pressing the power button or either of the volume buttons.

3. Foriegn Language Keyboards - Most Android phones come with English keyboards for the touch screen. So say, you want a french keyboard go to android apps store and search for it. Expect to pay around $3 for it.

4. Getting rid of unwanted callers - If you do not want to pick up the phone for a frequent caller, add the number in your phonebook if not already there. Then edit the entry and scroll to the bottom for aditional info, then click ‘send directly to voicemail’.

5. Trouble Viewing Web Pages - Many users try to stretch pages to read them which is a laborious task, so to make the task simpler change the defualt font size from "Normal" to "Large". For this press the menu button, then more button , then settings and then choose text size to change the size.

6. Stop screen from turning off -. Bring up the Settings app. Tap Applications, then Development. Turn on the ‘Stay awake’ option.
